I AM HAPPY! With so many events buzzing over the nation and a buttload happening in Brooklyn on Saturday, May 19th, I am happy that so many came out to a packed house, standing room only, people waiting outside Natural Hair Parade Coed Curly Hair Mixer at Beso in Brooklyn.

I tried to capture the day time event that I participated in with Amazing Botanicals Pop Up Salon and Boutique Grand Opening that took place both at the salon, with the boutique, entertainment and refreshments at Beso from noon to five. Since I was only speaking at this event, I was able to chronicle the day with snapshots of the goings on. I’ve shared my pictures below.

But for my evening event, which ran from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. I was busy being a host and M.C., spending time with my guests, laughing with old friends who’d come to support and buzzing around being a social butterfly. Our photography was provided by Lamar T Photography and Be Bonafide Inc./Magazine and I’ll publish these once they are ready.

All in all, I just will say that the event was fab. Beso was a perfect spot because it wasn’t too big and it allowed for an intimate setting where people really connected and networked and made a ton of friends. Will Williams of Sofn’free was HILAR and he really had the ladies trying to snatch that Sofn’free giveaways from him! Frankie Benz of Fly By Coco Latina spoke about her blog, natural hair in the corporate space and the Nomadness Travel Tribe, a group started by travel blogger Evita Robinson for world travelers and that I’d like to note, has an army of naturals. L Joy Williams of Blacking It Up Radio came in with the fun and told us about the podcast and administered giveaways for Beautiful Textures and Jessicurl. Performance poet Christine-Jean Blain rocked the house with two pieces that had folks snapping (I loved the aura she brought to the event). Jessyca Marshall of Brothas That Love Sistas with Natural Hair and Cassie Morales of Be Bonafide Inc./Magazine also provided great talks that had our guests all ears, and enjoying the event.

I won’t even get on the food. All I’ll say is it was BOMB! lol The drinks were great and all the servers were pleasant. Beso is a great place to host an event and cool for you to chill on a weekday for dinner with a friend.

Now that our successful NY Curly Hair Mixer is over, we’re gearing up for Gulf Coast Naturals Fierce, Fly, Fabulous in New Orleans during Essence Festival Weekend. Tickets for that will be on sale Friday so get ready to come to the city for partying and fun and make sure you party with us.

Check out our first set of pictures from this weekend and I’ll be posting the others soon!

Happy hair!
